I just bought a car that has had water damage to it. I need to thouroughly dry out the carpet and then treat it so that mold doesn't grow and it doesn't smell.

My mother spilled diesel in the back of my Van. We used the shop vac and a degreaser from the part store. I also used a powder to cover up the smell, didn't work. Has anyone actually gotten the smell out? It's in the stow-in-go part, so I don't have to do the whole carpet.

I have a 2003 Ford Windstar Limited. I've done an internet search and this particular model is hard to find parts / carpet for. I'd go to the Ford dealership and order one but I know that they will charge more than twice what the carpet is worth.
